Discover our Corsican knives, called "shepherd's knives" "Stylet" or "Vendetta", a real Corsican speciality dating back to antiquity.
The Corsican knife was once indispensable to daily life, all men had their own knives, they used them for daily work, basket-making, hunting and even to defend themselves. Failing to be able to be made by a blacksmith for lack of money, the men made their own knives. Over time, it has adapted according to usage and its history, influenced by the different peoples who lived on the island (Moor, Saracen, Iberian or Italian). It is said that it was offered to the young boy as a sign of passage into adulthood, it was passed down from generation to generation as an object of family heritage. Today, it is always useful to have it in your pocket in case of need (an unexpected and hop is settled!) and above all, to cut the figatellu to the aperitif.
At first, before it was even called the "Corsican stylet", it was a tool of shoemakers and bourreliers used to pierce the leather. Under the many occupations of the island, the carrying of the weapon was forbidden by the islanders, so the stylus appeared in the 16th century. Resembling a dagger with one or two edges, it was used for hunting, as a military weapon and as a favorite of thugs wishing to settle their differences. Subsequently, the stylus became popular and distinguished by its design in the 19th century, a precious object, found on the belts of women and men in a most refined style.
Much appreciated by Corsicans for its solidity, resistance and elegance, it was christened by two Ajaccian merchants "Vendetta Corsica", inspired by Italian knives. The Vendetta is more tapered than his colleague called "the shepherd's knife", his sleeve was once flowery and revenge quotes were engraved on the blade (in Italian). It was a phenomenal success, disseminated worldwide as a weapon but also as a decorative object, however Corsican cutlers did not like it. Since then, the "Vendetta" knife has been rehabilitated at the end of the 20th century, restoring it to its former glory with today's design and modernity.
